Taste of New York Salt 6-Pack

"Wooly Bully" by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs was beating dully in the background of the crowded bar. Some old-timer artists in viridian-streaked painter’s pants and hand-knit turtleneck sweaters in need of darning gathered at the mahogany bar at the entrance. But deeper into the bar was where the action was.  Was he wearing a yellow shirt with narrow lapels and a skinny tie with dark blue check pattern, worsted wool pants tapered at the ankle and chukka boots with mismatched socks? Did he approach the lanky young woman with brown, shoulder length hair, faded jeans, and an incongruous pair of Montgomery Ward’s 1965 bow pump and actually say, “Hey babe, where’d you get those shoes?” Did she turn, and barely mask a sigh, at the sight of the tall, olive-complected stranger? Charles Mingus was playing just down the street, Bob Dylan and Joan Baez had just broken up across the way at Washington Square, and love was in the air, together aromas of all that make New York, New York. The days that followed were a bur for the new young couple. Staggering into the sunlight for fresh bagels and fermented dill pickles at Katz’s. Drinking cheap red wine in water glasses in the steamy confines of John's coal fired pizza. Leaving Elaine’s at 2am and stopping to sample the newest addition to the polyethnic culinary wonderland of the Big Apple, the gyros and kebabs sizzling and salted to feverish flavor served by Halal food carts on the street corners. Did it happen this way? I have no way of knowing the details, but it was The Corner Bistro where my parents met, and it couldn’t have been much different. This is the New York of my dreams, and it’s the New York we all love.

Magic Pizza Dust There are few things more New York than pizza, so we made some magic pizza dust inspired by that gooey, juicy, salty, stringy, perfect New York slice. Fine grained Italian sea salt expertly infused with fennel, rosemary, parsley, oregano, garlic and onion. Sprinkle generously on pizza, spaghetti sauce, garlic bread, and popcorn (taste tested and approved on popcorn!). Or use as a finishing touch on seared flank steak, tomato soup, baked potatoes with sour cream and all the fixings, homemade buttered rolls.

Better Than Everything! Bagel Seasoning There are few things more New York than bagels. Here's a bagel seasoning with attitude. Hand-harvested New Zealand flake salt expertly infused with equal parts poppy seed, toasted onion, caraway, sesame seed and garlic. What's not to love? Sprinkle with gusto on bagels, avocado toast, bread and unsalted butter, roasted chicken, coleslaw, Bloody Marys, popcorn. You know the drill.
